"A few weeks ago, about 12 friends were gathered at Sherlock Holmes Pub in Nashville, when the most wonderful music started playing. Without exception, each of the songs merited comments from all of us, and mind you, we are a cynical music-business-weary bunch! We asked Moire, the barmaid (and Nicky Hopkins' widow, BTW) what we were listening to and she said "Wood". Come again? "Wood". Hmm. Never heard of it, him, them, whatever. I did manage to find a copy at Borders, but only one, which led me to Amazon, where I'd previously searched. This time I had an album title, which made it easier. I have to say that Columbia Records needs to get off their lazy posteriors and let people know about this wonderful record. But..., it's no surprise that this is one record you have to search for. It's well worth the hunt. Beautifully written, played, performed, and produced, this will be my desert island disc for 2001."

"I was scanning through the radio stations on my way to school, hoping to find something decent to listen to before a long day. My attention was caught by a sexy unfamiliar English accent. I stopped the scan and had a listen. It turns out Wood was in some random radio station, and they were going to do two of their songs, live! I hadn't heard of them, but was interested enough in their voices, that I stayed tuned. And what I heard was completely amazing. I almost cried! I fell in love with Wood after just two songs. The rest of the week I searched all the local music stores to find this CD. I finally found it...and now it hasn't left my CD player. For over a week now, it is the ONLY CD I have listened to. If you're looking for something mellow and absolutely beautiful, buy this without hesitation!"

"i had made a friend of mine a tape of Whiskeytown and the Scud Mountain Boys, and she kept going on about this "wood" band. i was mildly curious and when i saw it for 5 bucks, i snapped it up. suffice to say, i would have paid full price for this one.James Maddock is a first rate songwriter.some reviews have found his tunes derivative of certain sixties and seventies music, but so what? his work is fresh sounding. I Only Came For You is a beautiful ballad but it doesn't stop there.the songs flow together in a tuneful meld complete with gorgeous harmonies and solid playing.this record has sneaked up into my top 5 of 99 with Wilcos' Summerteeth and Owsleys self titled debut.fine company indeed."
One of the Best New Bands of the Year!

"Great CD! Wood is one of the best new bands of the year. Great lyrics, vocals and instrumentation make this very easy to listen to. While the CD tends to be on the mellow side, you can certainly hear the influences of Van Morrison, The Beatles, and Springsteen. This is one of those CD's that you will listen to SEVERAL times after purchasing and you will not tire of it."
