"I had never heard of Weckmann before I impulsively bought the CD on account of my morbid obsession with dense counterpoint. The textures of the chorale-based works are unrelentingly dense, and this is not the sort of music that can appeal to anyone immediately with 'big tunes'.The 'inaccessability' of the music is in a sense exasperated by Zerer's unadventurous but effective registration, which is, however, exactly what this music needs. The contrapuntal lines are consistently clear and are never obscured by any idiosyncrasies of registration of articulation. The sound is unobtrusive in the best sense of the word, and the documentation is as good as is necessary for introducing us to such an unknown composer.75 minutes of stimulating, under-appreciated music at a great price. The adventurous need not hesitate."
