CD Reviews

Strange Affair- Unknown Masterpiece for Wishbone Ash

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a Wishbone Ash fan since listening to all of "There's The Rub" shortly after it's release. I've listened to every studio release since then and there have been a lot of good ones and a lot of not so good ones. Strange Affair is one of the good ones; my favorite of the I.R.S. trilogy (SA, Nouveau Calls & Here to Hear) reuniting the original line up. In the past i've been partial to the albums with Martin Turner singing the lead vocal but here you have all three singing lead but mainly Andy Powell and he does a fine job. The songs are written by all and are of a high caliber. The styles are varied incl. Blues, Pop & Folk. The trademark twin lead is present and sounds superb. The real treat are the end solos by Andy on Strange Affair and Dream Train and by Ted on Standing in the Rain. The Martin Turner produced remaster on Talking Elephant sounds much better than the original on I.R.S. If you are a real Wishbone Ash fan and haven't heard this do yourself a favor and buy it."

"This was the last disc with Martin Turner. While it has some good tracks, as a whole it falls short. Best tracks: Wings of desire, Dreamtrain, Standing in the rain, Strange afffair. Very good sound quality."
