""Winter's Verge" is Greek-Cypriot power metal band and "Eternal Damnation" is their debut album, originally released in 2008. Although relatively young a band, the boys have the talent and the tools to produce a professional and relevant- to date- album.
"Eternal Damnation" was recorder during September 2007 in Germany, produced by R.D. Liapakis ("Mystic Prophecy", "Valley's Eve") which, I suppose, stands as a guarantee for the quality of this release. The band consists of Harry Pari (g), Miguel Trapezaris (b), Andreas Charalambous (b), Stephanos Psillides (k) and George Charalambous (v)who sounds quite a bit like R.D. Liapakis.
To the credit of both producer and band; "Winter's Verge" as a release focuses on the characteristics that differentiate this new band from "Mystic Prophecy": the definitive element of the band is melody and to a lesser extent speed, suggesting that you get equal amounts of speed/power metal tracks and melodic metal tunes a fact that grants this release diversity without distorting the overall atmosphere and character of the album. Also one has to mention that the overall sound is not as "thrashy" as "Mystic Prophecy"; having said that, one finds a few thrashy riffs and passages on certain songs but they do not dominate the album. Favourite tracks include: "My winter sun", "Hold my hand", "For I have sinned" and "Spring of life".
Overall, "Winter's Verge- Eternal Damnation" is a very serious proposition for any fan of power/melodic metal fan; especially if you prefer bands like "Mystic Prophecy", "Firewind" and "Dream Evil".
