Oliver Penn | New York City | 01/23/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I have been fortunate to have seen Wilson Pickett, "The Wicked One," on several occasions where I witnessed one of the great stage performers of all time. This album is a particular favorite of mine, not only because Wilson is in top form, but because of the background singing by the Sweet Inspirations! Yes, Cissy Houston and her girls are carrying on behind Mr. Pickett. I believe this was before they had a name.
One of the best shows I've ever seen was a James Brown concert at the Palladeum in New York, with Wilson Pickett as The Godfather's special guest. Well, the two had a screaming contest to beat all others: Wilson won. NOBODY IN SOUL MUSIC COULD SCREAM LIKE PICKETT. Give it up!" |
