Pretend I Never Happened
Black Rose - Willie Nelson, Shaver, Billy Joe
On this 2000 reissue of a modest, self-produced 1985 album, Willie Nelson and his usual companions (plus guitarist Grady Martin) are up to their usual high standards. Seven of the dozen tunes are tasteful, touching remakes... more » of lesser-known Nelson gems from the 1960s and early 1970s, all of them pertaining to fading and faded love. The one new Nelson original, the poignant "Forgiving You Was Easy," not only fits the mood perfectly, but also landed him a No. 1 country hit. Filling out the program are a trio of Billy Joe Shaver's finest compositions, done at a time when Shaver's name was far from the tip of country's tongue, as well as an update of the beloved title track. All in all, this may not be an essential Nelson title, but it's certainly a charming listen and a worthy addition to your collection. --Marc Greilsamer« less

"The LP was made in 1985. Why did it take so long to put it on cd? Will In The Jailhouse Now , Angel Eyes, Brand On My Heart, Songwriter ever make it on to cd? Well this album was worth the wait.. Several songs appear no where else so it's not the same old tired tunes. Nelson does a great Georgia On A Fast Train, and modernized I'm A Memory. The CD has not a dud on it! This is a MUST have."

"A "MOST EXCELLENT" release by the legendary Willie Nelson. As Gregory says in the above review, "why did it take so long to get this L.P. "moved" over onto CD." THANK YOU DCC COMPACT CLASSICS. It is a "crying shame" that Columbia Records/Capitol Records and RCA Records will not issue the "best music" to ever come out of Nashville by Waylon Jennings/Willie Nelson/Johnny Cash/Kris Kristofferson/Kenny Rogers/Jessi Colter onto CD. We all must wait for a rising company, such as DDC Compact Discs/Buddah Records to put these "legends" onto CD. Gregory, the L.P.'s "In The Jailhouse Now," and "Angel Eyes" have been issued on CD, but very hard to find. I only hope DDC Compact Discs/Buddah Records will continue their extravagant efforts. -----How about 1984's "Music From Songwriter" soundtrack, by Willie/Kris, and 1989's Third World Warrior by Kris."

"I bought this as an early Father's Day gift for my father-in-law. He said it was "Classic Willie" and once again he wasn't disappointed with this new release. Willie is the very sound of sorrow in I'm a Memory. If you're a Willie fan don't wait to buy this!"

"Despite its conspicuous absence from the slew of greatest hits albums to be released in recent years, the single "Me and Paul" is, i believe, one of Willie's truly great recordings. I recommend a thorough seven hours of listening with a fresh whiskey on the half hours. God bless my fellow listeners."
