Poetic tunes

""Unvarnished" is unadulterated sound. In this era of mechanically enhanced, tweaked and, dare I say it...computerized music, Smith's pure, clear voice and poetic lines are as refreshing as your first Dave Wilcox concert. His melodies are inventive and eminently 'hum-able'...this album invokes memories of J.T., John Denver and Dave Wilcox. Heartfelt lyrics, beautiful guitar and a pure voice.Favorite selections on this album: "Tough Love" - this song sticks in your head and is a sure repeater- also "I'm a Fan" and "Turning Turning." Smith is around in coffee houses etc., a cheap evening of great music for low$$....in the area. Been seen at Cafe Beethoven in Chatham, NJ and in Red Bank as well. Give yourself a refreshing visit to this album. Just a guy, his guitar and great melodies and lyrics...what a concept!"
A modern-day minstrel!

"The best music still comes from New Jersey. "Unvarnished" has great lyrics, cool arrangements, and sparkling guitar tracks. Amazing what one person can do these days in a home studio ...Will's lyrical content really stretches on this album; for example, the first track is written from the perspective of an "historical home." And his use of alternate tunings keeps the flow of songs interesting. Good stuff!"
