"I always found the songs of William Bell compelling because his voice sounded distant and plaintive. He had a way of singing that sounded insistent, and which matched very well the kinds of tunes he sung. In the 70s, he used more strings than most practitioners of Southern soul, and his music sounded more soothing as a result. The songs on this CD are really beautiful on that account. I think the first 10 songs (which constitute "Wow...William Bell") are better than the others. But the whole offering deserves 5 stars."
