80's Twang/Roots-Rock

"I saw this band live in New Orleans in 1987 or 1988 at Jimmy's Club. The place was deserted, and I think I was one of three or four people who were actually there to see the band. I still have the poster they signed after the show.
These guys had a brief moment in the sun with a mention in Rolling Stone, and some airplay of the song "I'm sorry, I can't rock you all night long," about a man who can't quite live up to the expectations of being a rock star. It's funny, and well-written, like a lot of their music.
Mud, Lies + Shame (the band's second album, most of which is on this re-release) spent a lot of time in my car stereo, along with records by fellow-Austinites Zeitgeist (later re-named The Reivers) and the another rootsy band, the db's.
I think the music holds up pretty well after all this time (which, incidentally, is a great track on this record)."
