"Well, it's nice to see that Whitesnake's pre-poodle days aren't being completely ignored. "Greatest Hits" focused almost solely on the group's latter-day MTV-styled pop metal, ignoring the fact that Whitesnake used to be a really tough little blues-rock combo.
Sure, the "Silver Anniversary Collection" drew from the late-70s/early 80s material as well, but this CD is nevetheless a nice addition to the Whitesnake catalogue, making it possible for those who just went out and bought "Greatest Hits" to get some of the group's best early stuff as well without having to buy "Is This Love" and "Still Of The Night" again.
The many highlights here include "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City", the original "Here I Go Again", "Sweet Talker", the tough grind of "Love Hunter", and one of the group's best songs, the excellent "Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues".
The track selection isn't quite perfect, and the serious fan already has Whitesnake's original albums, of course, but if you only know of them in their mid-to-late-eighties hair metal guise, check out this collection as well."
