CD ReviewsHey, Who Really Cares? David Wayne | Santee, CA United States | 05/29/2000 (3 out of 5 stars) "This is a reissue of their early seventies album, "Life And Breath." This IS a good album, but of the five albums The Whispers released on the Janus label in those days, this one is only in fourth place. You can find the content of "The Whispers Greatest Hits" on an Epic/Solar re-issue, "Vintage Whispers." But whomever owns the masters of their 1972 "Love Story" lp and their "Bingo" effort of 1974, could do us soul music fans a real favor by putting them out, perhaps in a 2 on 1 release. On THIS album, you'll like the title cut, as well as the group's search for a follow up hit to "Can't Help But Love You." Listen to the confidence in their sound they display on "Here Comes Tomorrow," "Speak Softly Love," "Life And Breath," and "I Love The Way You Make Me Feel." This album is a notable preview of the hits still ahead of The Whispers on Soul Train/Solar. But the story is incomplete. Please, someone, come to our aid, and fully document this essential group's early seventies (and sixties, too) material. As The Whispers sang on their "Love Story" album, "Hey, Who Really Cares?""
