"Rachel Howard from ocklawaha is right: Alfred Deller was the first and the best. I too have the vinyl version of this disc and was thrilled to discover this CD and several others last year (despite a depressing lack of information from most of the UK outlets - hooray for Amazon). Deller's voice is extraordinary, and the arrangements simple and effective. Compare and contrast with the recent release by Andreas Scholl of "Wayfaring Stranger", inspired by the original Deller recordings - and, sadly, not a touch on them. If you buy nothing else this year, get this CD."

"At least, I think he is. Alfred Deller's voice was as beautiful as the song of a nightingale. His was a lighter instrument than David Daniels, and he seemed to be more at home in song rather than on the opera stage, but this is a wonderful album for anyone interested in this highest of male registers. I used to own the original vinyl version of this CD and its beauty haunts me right to this day.
Highly recommended!"
