CD Reviews

Carte blanche
Thomas Cramer | Ithaca, NY United States | 02/20/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this LP in 1968, which I think was a year after it came out. From what I've read, the surviving WCPAEB members mock the contributions of Bob Markley. Well, from what I can tell, Bob Markley was the WCPAEB. Having said that, I just want to add that Carte Blanche and Tracey had A Hard Day Sunday are two timeless classics, still unrecognized by the retroheads at Mojo, and still cool 30 some years later, which is more than I can say about most of the stuff from the Velvets, Love, and other favorite underground dwellers of yesteryear...."
Uneven but excellent at times

"Still for my money the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band is one of the great bands of the 60s. They are up there with Love bidding for the greatest overlooked band of the 60s. This CD is not their best due to its uneveness. It does however have some ***** songs. It is hard to find a some better 60s classic than the 'Smell of Incense'. 'In the Arena' and the classic 'What If They Had a War and Nobody Came' are well worth the money. The rest of the material is hit or miss."
