The band's unique talent is also an important addition to the North American cultural landscape and collectively their level of virtuosity and musicianship is unmatched in this country. This 1999 release by the Disney-based group is a 9 song CD featuring remakes of some of Africa s best known stars like Papa Wemba and Salif Keta. The primary vocals are sung mostly by Djene Doumbouya (Guinea) and Abdoulaye Diabate, who is originally from Mali. The arranger, keyboardist and bandleader, Adzhouni Adou, hails from the Ivory Coast and skillfully puts his own spin on these popular songs, the result of which is an album of very danceable tunes. The musical genre or style of this release is Afro-Pop and it combines ancient and modern instruments into a cultural celebration.
