"This is truly a remarkable Christ-exalting record! I imagine these are british Christian standards, but here in america, only a few sound familiar to me. Unfortunately, the booklet does not give singer/musician information, but there is a note on who the authors/songwriters are. This sounds like a live concert recording of some very talented musicians and vocalists performing awesome songs by various authors. Here is a short track by track review: (in my humble words)
1. 'undignified' (matt redman)- an incredible, energetic song about praising God with all your life... though not 1/2 as energetic as the crowder* band's!
2. 'sound the trumpet' (dave bilbrough)- a climactic shout of rejoice in the Lordship of Jesus... actually cool that they do a breakdown where they actually 'strike the drum' and 'sound the trumpet'. the end of the song sounds like lord of the dance?!
3. 'we want to see Jesus lifted high' (doug horley)- WOW! this song ROCKS!!! up-tempo and shouting about Jesus being the Way!!! "that all men may see the Truth and know that HE is the Way to heaven"
4. 'let God arise' (dave fellingham)- female vocals on this latin-feeling rhythmic song, it talks of how we've been saved by His Sacrifice, so REJOICE!!!
5. 'i see the Lord' (paul oakley)- not the same as the maranatha! singers' standard by the same name. on this slower song, the angelic vocal chorus lifts up the Name of the Lord along with the male lead vocalist. an AWESOME song to glorify!
6. 'take us to the river' (robin mark)- a lengthy, mid-tempo song about longing for face-to-face fellowship with our Awesome God. as the chorus sings out, "the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon us! This is the year of the LORD!!!"
7. 'pour over me' (stuart townend)- a slow song of healing. it sings of how glad we are that His mercies are new every morning; how He changes hearts from stone to flesh... AMEN!!!
8. 'let everything that has breath' (matt redman)- not the old hymn, but a rockin' song of PRAISE at ALL times! (sounds like matt redman's vocals, but again, it does say?!) a great, up-beat song to God's glory... PRAISE to the Savior!
9. 'my first love' (stuart townend)- a punchy, rollicking song about how Jesus' love saves, heals, cleanses and restores!
10. 'once again' (matt redman)- a soft, sweet song of devotion and thanksgiving to our Lord Jesus [recently redone by fusebox].
11. 'i will offer up my life' (matt redman)- another CLASSIC soft and sweet song of the Lord's love and our best attempts at devotion to Him. the song echos psalm 51, "Lord, receive the sacrifice of a broken heart". we give our lives 'cos that is all we have, but He deserves it ALL!
12. 'all hail the Lamb' (dave bilbrough)- a memorable eight-line song exalting the Lord Jesus to the Highest Place!!! AMEN!
13. 'who is there like You?' (paul oakley)- a pretty duet recognizing that no one else in all of creation would ever give us their life like Jesus did. indeed, no one else ever could! cool how the voices and instruments build during the song, then fade away so you're left just dwelling on the Lion-like Lamb!
14. 'how deep the Father's love for us' (stuart townend)- oh, praise Him!!! this is the probably the song which compelled me to write this review (aside from the awesome title track). this song sweetly chronicles the feelings we have, or that we imagine the Father may have had in punishing His Son in our place. when all is said and all is done, we are sinners saved by grace. ALL THE GLORY goes to GOD!!!
15. 'we bow down' (viola grafstrom)- an eight-line song that helps express our need for Jesus, and Jesus, alone... (neat how this song fades back into the second verse of 'how deep the Father's love for us') it says, "behold the Man upon a cross/ my sin upon His shoulders/ ashamed, i hear my mocking voice/ call out among the scoffers// it was my sin that held Him there/ until it was accomplished/ HIS dying breath has brought me LIFE/ i know that IT IS FINISHED!"
Praise the Lord!!! I wish you could listen to this outstanding devotional record. I guess you will have to buy it! It is certainly great for ANY occasion. It helps humble the heart and lift up the King! It cries out, "Draw near to Jesus, for He, alone, saves the lives of men!" REJOICE!!!"
