"The only recording of the Waltzes I've heard that compares with this one is Arthur Rubinstein's last recording. Magaloff is even better than Dinu Lipatti. Magaloff takes sensible but not slow tempos, and his emphases always are within the boundaries of what works in the spirit of the dance. So many recordings of the Waltzes are labored affairs. These performances just fly by, although there is much to be savored as they go. The sound engineering is very good, with a convincing heft and tonal elegance to the depiction of the piano. If you want to acquire the Waltzes on the cheap, I would recommend Dimitri Alexeev's excellent recording. But Magaloff's is really special."
