STORMY SOULS

"CLASSIC SOULS (STORMY NIGHT): This is actually the Souls' Stormy Night album - re-titled and repackaged - , a late eighties effort recorded with heavyweight producer, Lloyd "King Jammy" James. There's no way anyone would mistake this for vintage Wailing Souls material as the updated album title might suggest, but nonetheless, this is a solid release with a few standouts. DOG BITE, SPREAD PROPOGANDA, and MOVE ON are all first-rate roots numbers; the rest of the material ranges from good (POUR YOUR LOVE, WHAT YOU GONNA DO?) to mediocre (YOU PLEASE ME, the remake of FIRE COAL MAN), but if you can pick this up at a reasonable price, it's not a bad investment."
