"I gave this historic recording 5 stars. It should be considered one of the wonders of the world. I know that many may find the sound disputable and maybe some of the performances too but how can anyone not be in aw just hearing these golden age singers on a live recording no less.Yes I know this is an enormous compilation of so many performances. My first listening took the most effort but after that I can glide through it. All these singers did sing together at one time or another it's the conductors who are assorted and so is the sound quality. The orchestras sound supportive but uneven do to limited quality recording tech. and mic placement. These great singers performed before the media became what we know it be. There were no complete recordings being turned out factory style. What impressed me was the fact that their traveling time from city to city was such that when they arrived there they stayed. While it is exciting to hear these singers I have to admit it is Flagstad who is worth ten times the price of admission. It is thrilling to hear her voice take flight. Such beauty of sound from top to bottom. I will continue listening to this cycle but this was my first."
