Sopranos Ryden & Bertagnolli sound beautiful-

(4 out of 5 stars)
"If you already have Robert King's Hyperion project of Vivaldi's sacred music, your first and ninth discs of that fantastic series contain the pieces on this new release. For the RV 609 Lauda Jerusalem, Hyperion has the sopranos Susan Gritton and Lisa Milne, and for the RV 602 & 602A they have Carolyn Sampson and Joanne Lunn. Those four sopranos are outstanding, but so are the two sopranos featured on this disc, Susanne Ryden and Gemma Bertagnolli. I have Ryden's discs of Gletle motets and Keiser's Italian cantatas, and she's a favorite of mine. Bertagnolli has been featured in Opus 111 Vivaldi operas amongst other baroque music, and she's as fine as Ryden. Although the sound is better with the King's Consort group, the Harmonices Mundi ensemble are more than adequate. Even if you have those Hyperion discs, you still might want to consider acquiring this one since Ryden and Bertagnolli sing so well. The only reason I'm rating it with 4 stars instead of 5 is the shortness of the disc's time; they easily could have fit 10 to 20 more minutes of music."
