A wedding of music and imagery

"Illustrators Michelle Barnes and Greg Spalenka collaborated together to create an art booklet accompanied by a CD of their original compositions. The booklet is sumptuous, with beautiful drawings of mythic creatures and nymphs, floating typography, and collages. The music itself is what you might get if Kate Bush wrote the score for Peter Greenaway film. The delicacy of the compositions (synthetic pseudo-classical) is nicely set off by the insistent rhythm patterns. Barnes' voice is light, airy, and wispy. It's nicely bolstered by multi-tracking and the harmonies provided by back-up singers. Some people might find the lyrics-medieval and "gothic"-a bit on the precious, twee side. But the soufflé-like production values, and the beauty of the accompanying art booklet makes any such pretensions forgivable."
