CD Reviews

HowCanAny sane punk/hardcore fan give this less than 5stars

"Vision is hands down the most underrated punk or hardcore band in all of history. No questions asked. Because barely anybody has heard of them. Yet whenever I play them for ANY punk or hardcore fan they always love it! In fact it is now my second favorite underground punk CD! I immediately wanted this CD after hearing the song "Close Minded" on Punk-o-Rama vol 5. "Close Minded" was a moderately fast awesome punk song about only wanting to listen to punk. The rest of the CD sounds pretty different and is more like fast and hard hardcore punk. They actually have a pretty original sound. However, this does not mean "Close Minded" fans might not like it. Because if you like punk or hardcore in general you WILL like this. It's so amazing, how can you not? However, I have to admit the lyrics caught me pretty off guard. Since it is a punk CD I expected most of the songs to be political. However it turns out, the only 2 political songs on here are "Lighting the Fuse" and "Beggars and Gentry". He seems to sing more about his life and friends than anything else. There's betrayal on "Now I bleed". There a song about forgiving each other on "Wipe the Slate Clean". Or just plain bad friendships on "Try", "Searching for Slugged" and "The Problem is You". There is even non friendship life topics on "Predictable" and "Don't Sound the Alarm". Which are about monotony and secrets. I was originally disappointed with these lyrics but I wasn't really giving them a chance. I realized that they are a lot like my life, and I like it. However just in case you are wondering "From Father To Son" is not really a song. It's just his father giving him a lecture. I personally think it should have just been a hidden track or not have been put on the CD in the first place. My personal favorites (other than "Close Minded of course) are "No Compromise" and "Lighting the Fuse". "No Compromise" is a very fast hard hitting hardcore song that is about how they do their music the way they want to and only them. "Lighting the Fuse" has fantastic guitar work and is actually the song the CD is named after. This is because the chorus goes "Turn on the news. Lighting the fuse. Watching the world just burn". And well, "Watching the World Burn" is the name of the CD. I also like "Effigy" a lot. My least favorite would have to be "Beggars and Gentry". It sounds a little Zeke influenced ehh? I hate Zeke by the way. So overall, even though it took a long time to get a hold of this CD it was definitely well worth the wait. Peace."
HARDCORE AT IT'S BEST

"Another A+ record from these NJ veterans. These guys have beena round since 1987 and are in a class of bands like YOUTH OF TODAY, GORILLA BISCUITS and many more from the late 80's Posi Straight Edge movement. They never quit and are still going strong and playing the same kind of music they started nearly 20 years ago! Melodic, powerful, positive hardcore. Everything this band has done is gold. One of my all time favorites, and efinetly under appreciated."
