Challenging music well-played

"These three pieces are very interesting explorations of what can be done with the violin sonata format. The music itself is quite unconventional. Melodic lines are long and the two instruments voices are presented in interesting (and to me novel) ways. This is worth a try. Of the three I liked the two complete sonatas -- the 'torso' meandered a bit for my tastes. Sound quality is great."
Take my review with a grain of salt...

"The music on this CD is played extremely well, technically. But on an artistic level, it just doesn't do it for me. I have listened to overlapping pieces on this and Enescu's Complete Columbia Recordings. The Columbia Recordings were done many years ago and there is a scratchy, static present, even though remastered. Even with the static, the Columbia Recordings CD is far superior, by my ear. I have never heard a more evocative violinist than Enescu. Although the recording quality of this CD is excellent, I just don't feel the same excitement from hearing Enescu's music played by these performers that I hoped I would. It's like there is a depth or dimension missing for me.
But take my review with a grain of salt. I am an amateur and just giving my opinion. Hope this helps."
