"This recording as well as the others by Philip Hirshorn reveal a talant of Olympian calibre, tragically cut down by cancer. His mastery of the instrument is in the class of the biggest violin virtuosos of this century, and his intensity of expression is so "hot" that the name Heifetz comes to mind. The recordings are a "must" for anyone who appreciates fine violin playing and for collectors who are looking for those undeservedly lesser known recordings that will probably end up being played over and over in addition to their most prized CDs. And last but not least, for the young aspiring violinsts to be enlightened and guided in their quest for greatness, these recordings are indispensable!"
Astonishing playing by a little known artist

"Please see also my review of the recital CD of Hirschorn from the winner's recital of the Queen Eliz. Competition in 1967. This man is the most exquisite violinist I have heard, yet he is relatively unknown in the US. These are live performances from the Belgian mega-competition, and you will be touched to the bottom of your soul. If you are interested in violin and the syndrome of competitions, look out for the documentary "The Winners", to be released next year, which deals with phenomenal winners of that competition who did not end up having big careers. Hirschorn died at 50 of cancer, tragically."
