"The Bach violin concertos belong to those compositions one hears very often, but with this recording it almost feels like hearing them again for the first time.Monica Huggett has an ability to really bring this music to life, let it sing and reveal all its hidden beauties. Even in technically demanding passages she maintains a relaxed fluency and her playing never sounds laborious. Interesting is the imaginative and varied articulation which seems to be worked out in the finest detail. This performance shows a skilful reconciliation of delicacy on the one side and a certain robustness and liveliness (especially in the fast movements) on the other side. The soloist blends well with the orchestra.I have many recordings of Ton Koopman (as organist, harpsichordist and conductor) and I think he is one of the best interpreters of Bach's music."
