For almost two decades now Vinnie Paz has easily been the most recognizable and galvanizing figure in Hip Hop's underground. His work with Jedi Mind Tricks and Army Of The Pharaohs has been hailed as revolutionary and viol... more »ently conscious. And his presence is unmatched. Paz's greatest strength lies in his diversity; he is as equally at ease writing brutal, grimy raps as he is constructing poignant, insightfully personal verses and and it is that ability, combined with a deep, metaphysical inttelect and the sickest deliveries, that keeps Vin at the forefront of innovation. 20 years have not been enough to mellow the Pazmanian Devil; there is still enough injustice, sickness and social unrest in the world to fuel Vinnie.
Now, with the debut of Vinnie's first-ever solo project, Season Of The Assassin, the world gets a chance to view the MC in a different realm. Season Of The Assassin is Paz's chance to step outside his usual JMT/AOTP mold. Not only is Vinnie in true lyrical form on Season Of The Assassin, he is also teamed up with superb talent. Beanie Sigel, Clipse, Freeway, Paul Wall, Ill Bill, R.A. The Rugged Man, Sick Jacken (Psycho Realm), Block McCloud and more show up on Season Of The Assassin. Production was held in the palms of some legendary hands: DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill/Soul Assassins), Madlib, Lord Finesse (D.I.T.C), Da Beatminerz, Lil' Fame (M.O.P), Moss, 4th Disciple (Wu-Tang), Bronze Nazareth (Wu-Tang), JMT's own DJ Kwestion, Shuko and more lend their talents to Paz's monumental new album.« less

"First of all...Jedi Mind Tricks should be a standard in underground hip hop. (Or in other words, if you've never heard of J.M.T., you need to make some purchases.) Now, years later, Vinnie Paz, the voice of J.M.T. releases his solo effort, "Season of the Assassin."
If you close your eyes...and listen to Vinnie growl over the mic, you'll swear you're listening to a seventh J.M.T. album. Almost every track features odd, almost-otherworldly production and VIOLENT lyrics--so it's quite formulaic considering the J.M.T. back catalog.
Vinnie Paz is a beast on the mic. Each track is unique (and in most cases, hypnotic).
Believe me: I'll be bumping this album for weeks. And the heads will be turning as I roll through the eastern Idaho neighborhoods of Rexburg and Idaho Falls. "What the heck is that rumble, that growl? Somebody's pissed!"
R.A. the rugged man's verse is on "Nosebleed" is amazing.
Don't miss this release!
Peace."

"If you've heard Vinnie Paz before and enjoyed his music you will like this album as well. I actually think it is better than most of the JMT albums other than Violent By Design and Visions of Ghandi. Vinnie does tend to rap about some of the predictable violent and angry things with his rude and brash persona, which tends to get old after a while. But if you take him lightly and can appreciate a raw bangin sound then it's cool. He also has the ocassional real emotional heartfelt lines and songs, so he isn't some crazy bitter dude, I think he has said in interviews that he is mostly messin around when he writes. He has some clever punchlines too..."Make you put your hands up like people that are talking in quotes." Ha I like that, from the mysterious smooth track "Aristotle's Dilemma," produced by Madlib. His steady rhyme flow and syllable patterns are more than solid. He is a good MC, and if he varied his topic matter he would be great.
The beats on the this album are what hold it back, although they work well for Vinnie and are more than capable. Several really good songs. I am going to give this album an 8.75/10 for a B+ and about the fifth best album of 2010 so far. Better beats that have a little better samples and more bang to them would've made this album excellent. But a good album from Vinnie Paz for sure."
