"I've listened to various Herbie Hancock over the years, this is one I still play from time to time when I'm in a meditative mood. The unique combination of instruments and voice is inspired. The first track is the best, with its lilting, mesmerising rhythm and its perfect resolution, but it's all good music. Not a jazz record though. In a category of its own."

"Many of Mr Hancock's efforts from this period deserve to be forgotten; this is not one of them. There are only two musicians involved, Hancock and the griot Foday Musa Suso, who plays the kora, a West African stringed instrument. The music is subtle, contemplative, peaceful, and really, in every other way you can think of, the opposite of 'Feets, Don't Fail Me Now'.



When listening to this music one is reminded of just how old the world really is."
