"As influential as Vicious Rumors was, particularly on the thrash scene, you'd think they would get a bit more recognition. As it stands, it seems like only the true metal faithful give this band the credit they deserve. This particular Vicious Rumors album could go toe to toe with just about anything Anthrax or Megadeth was releasing at the time.
Even if you don't consider the 1990 self-titled album to be THE Vicious Rumors album, you have to admit that it comes close. It was released just after Digital Dictator and just prior to Welcome to the Ball, and at a time where the band was absolutely on top of their game. Every song on this album is incredibly strong, and the band's high octane mix of power metal and thrash metal styles is very effective. It's heavy, fast, and aggressive, but melodic enough that you can sing (or shout) along with the lyrics. Founder Geoff Thorpe lays down some incredible guitar work here, and vocalist Carl Albert (RIP) is in top form as well.
This is what real metal in the early 1990's was all about. Serious metal fans owe it to themselves to check out Vicious Rumors, and this album is as good a place as any to start.
NOTE: While I'm certainly grateful to Wounded Bird for reissuing this great metal album, it would have been even better to hear it digitally remastered and with some bonus material added for good measure. Oh well, I'll take what I can get."
One of the best metal albums I've ever heard

"I'm very picky when it comes to music, even metal and progressive metal. I won't listen to just any band that can crank out a wall of chords to a speed metal beat. There's got to be quality and talent there, good songwriting, and great lyrics. This self-titled album by Vicious Rumors has it all. It's hard, and yet melodic and soaring; punchy and yet graceful. The vocalist's voice is incredible, and so is the songwriting. Unfortunately I can't say the same for their next album, Welcome to the Ball. If you dig high quality metal, grab this CD."

"After getting the must-have "Welcome to the Ball" album by VR, this self-title album (which actually was released earlier) is next in line. The songwriting is not quite as strong, but still very good, especially with Carl's great vocals and VR's searing dual axe attack.
