"This recording of Verdi`s Requiem Mass was recorded in 1997 and attracted little attention at the time of its release.I actually found it in a bargain bin during a visit to Grenoble and since Verdi`s Requiem has always been my favourite, I got it.And, oh, to my surprise I discovered that it is actually a small treasure - although not in any competition with the ultimate recording by Giulini featuring Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Christa Ludwig et al.However, this recording, which was made in a church (not unusual) has an extra dimension - namely the ECHO. Many Requems are recorded in large halls/rooms etc. but I think that the technicians usually subdue the echo. This was not done here and all thru the Requiem you are made quite aware that this was recorded in a HUUUGE room, which adds an extra dimension to the recording and creates exactly the right atmosphere - thus being the reason for my 5th star, since orchestra and soloists are easily worth at least 4 stars, especially Scandiuzzi. If you are out to get an exceptional experience, do get this if you can!"
