Synopsis

Album Description
Andrea Licata was born in Palermo, beginning his musical studies at the Conservatoire Vincenzo Bellini where he studied conducting with Franco Ferrara, then moving on to the Conservatoire Santa Cecilia in Rome with Arrigo Pellicia. In 1984 he conducted the Lanciano International Orchestra Fenaroli during the Frentana summer festival. He has given several concerts with the Symphony Orchestra of the Accadamia Pescarese in Abruzzo; and made guest appearances with the Ente Autonomo Orchestra Sinfonica of Sicily. He conducted The Miracle Doctor by Bizet in the Municipal Theatre of Florence and has appeared with the Tuscany Regional orchestra in many symphonic concerts. At the Spoleto Festival he conducted the first world performance of the opera Sarah (on Marilyn Monroe's life) by the Belgian composer Paul Uy. In January 1991 he began his present appointment as Chief Conductor of the Bellini Theatre in Catania. In 1992 he was invited by the Opera di Roma to conduct La Gioconda and Aïda, returning in 1993 with Il Trovatore and Aïda during the Caracalla Festival. For the opening of the 1995 lyric season in Catania, he conducted Verdi's Messa da Requiem and Don Carlos. The season closed with the first Italian performance of the opera Jacquerie by Gino Marinuzzi.
