"When it comes to bargain classical, Naxos rarely dissapoints me. Nowhere is it this more true then in sets like this one. As one of Verdi's last works, and his most developed, Falstaff requires a certain amount of talent to pull off. That said, while this recording may lack the star name recognition of Falstaff recordings on other labels, the talent is most definitely there. All of the musicians perform competently throughout, and the audio quality is amazingly good for such a low price set. Those looking for more star power may want to look for a Falstaff on another label; however, for those looking for a decent recording at a great price, this set is a winner."

"With a generous selection of recordings of FALSTAFF available, (including, I imagine, a few budget-priced ones) I wonder why Naxos decided to contribute this rather superfuluous issue instead of turning to more unfamiliar repertoire. This set does not do justice to Verdi's comic masterpiece. In the title role, Domenico Trimarchi is rather awful: constantly wobbly of tone, and with lines delivered in a scratchy parlando rather than suavely and cantabile. Worst of all, he doesn't sound the least bit fat. Needless to say, a FALSTAFF that lacks a good Falstaff is not really worth getting. Pass this one up."
I love all of Verdi's Operas

"I am biased when it comes to the works of Verdi, he wrote for the voice and his operas are great for listening. This is a great opera, with great singers and its a high quality recording. I may buy another copy, just to have one in the house and one in my car for easy listening on long trips."
