Five Stars For What CAN Be Heard

"This Aida is a live recording of a 1955 show. Whether due to the old technology of the time, or for other reasons, it is hard to hear the singers: not only that there is background noise, but, most annoying, the orchestra sounds much louder than the voices.
One needs patience, but it is a very interesting exercise in analytical hearing, as the listener has to focus mentally on the voices, trying to put the orchestra aside.
However, it is rewarding to do that, because it is like peeping through a keyhole to catch a glimpse of a fabulous treasure, giving you a feeling that you are getting some kind of an "access denied" thing! What CAN be heard sounds so wonderful, that this seems to have been a great performance.
One can only hope that technology may make it possible one day to bring up the voices and cut on the orchestra without distortions. Until then, buy it if and only if you wish to study it.
