"The Ventures, of course, are the most succesful instrumental rock group of all time. This CD features a live concert from the group's first tour of Japan in 1965. It's a very good concert, with the group performing some of their most popular songs. An odd thing about the concert is that most of the tunes are introduced by a Filipino MC, in both English and Japanese. But that doesn't really detract from the enjoyment of the CD."
One of the best live rock CDs - period

"I've owned this CD for about 10 years and I still love it! As has been noted before, the sound quality is pristine, unbelievably well recorded for its time (considering it's a live CD), but of course what matters most is the music. And it's awesome. While the studio recordings of these songs could sometimes be too tame, or be marred with some of the cheesy production excesses of the time (Farfisa organ, anyone? Space-age choruses?), in a live setting it's a much different story.
The Ventures rock with an urgency and fire that is like nothing else I've heard from that time period. Mel Taylor in particular drives the songs along with his pounding, energetic drums...the concision and ferocity of the attack on these songs could almost be predictive of punk years later. Nokie Edwards really shines here too, pulling out some dazzlingly inventive solos on songs like "Wipe Out", getting down and dirty on "The Pink Panther Theme(!)", and "Yellow Jacket", and just rocking out in general. Not to be overlooked is the ace bass-rhythm guitar combo of Bob Bogle and Don Wilson; I love the funky tone Bogle gets out of his bass on some of the songs. An absolute must for instrumental rock fans, and one of the best live rock records you'll ever hear, instrumental or otherwise."
