CD Reviews

It is definitely a classic!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Just bought this back in December. Bought the "Extra Loaded" when it came out back in 1997.

Maybe it was a little too bloated for me, but the original album is a classic and fast-becoming my favorite

VU album. I like the poppier sound just fine and it has arguably their two best-known songs in "Sweet Jane"

and "Rock N Roll." I have listened to this 4-5 times all the way through since I bought and really enjoy listening to the album as a whole. It's not too hard and not too soft, it's Just Right. Helps relax me and not as abrasive as their first two albums."
The worst?

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well yes, probably the worst Velvet Underground album in the sense of sounding the most like a typical pop album. BUt... an excellent pop album. (It might be more appropriate to think of it as Lou Reeds first solo album -- Cale was gone, Tucker on pregnancy hiatus.) Lou Reed was a beguiling and original songwriter, and the classic cuts (Sweet Jane, Rock and Roll) are gems. Lou, of course, largely disassociated himself from the album, ("Loaded, as in loaded with hits.") as if he we're somehow not responsible. And maybe he wasn't. There is certainly evidence of post-production monkeying with the arrangements to make it even more commercial. But still. An album of excellent songs written and mostly sung by Lou Reed in his prime? How could I not give it five stars?"
