"Finally, a compact disc release that captures the diversity and history of the music of Morocco's Islamic Gnawa brotherhoods!! Whereas previous releases have focussed exclusively on the bass groove of the guinbri three stringed lute this fantastic double disc set presents Gnawa music in all its diversity: from tracks featuring vocals and percussion, to solo singers accompanying themselves on the lute, to larger Gnawa groups. All of the tracks, recorded in Morocco, capture the detailed interaction between members of the ensemble while never losing the vibe of a Gnawa ceremony. These discs are also the best recordings of Gnawa lute master Moustapha Bagbou, a favorite of the Moroccan cassette market. This is also the first release to feature detailed contextual notes and full transcriptions of the lyrics of all songs. For longtime fans of Gnawa music the notes alone are worth the price of the disc. I can't praise this disc enough. Th! e Rosetta Stone of Gnawa recordings- essential listening!!"

"This an amazing cd ! One of the finest gnawa music from Morocco.
The sound quality is also very good. The booklet gives a lot of information about each song. This is more than worth it!!!"
