"From a historical perspective, this collection of recordings of Australian folk music is worthwhile. However the technical quality of the recordings themselves is easily the poorest I have ever heard in my life. My father's collection of old 78's truthfully has better sound. Unfortunately, nowhere in the liner notes or on the CD itself does it give any clue as to when the recordings were made. The only explanation I can think of is that the recording engineer got blown up in the Battle of Gallipoli (1915) with his wax cylinders by his side. The piecing together of the "records" is what we have today in this CD."

"Loving anything Australian as I do, this CD was a huge disappointment. The songs I'm sure would be good if done by other artists. Reminds me of having Pavaroti sing songs of Hank Williams! The artists had too much of a stuffy air about them for the music they were singing. The songs are more folky and the singers sound more "opera-etic"."
