You can't please everybody all the time, though that is exactly what dance mixes with silly titles such as Ultimate Dance Party 2000 try to achieve. If this mix has any guiding philosophy or theme, it is that it throws together a lot of remixes of music from outside the dance genre, featuring pop divas, reggae superstars, and moody folkies. This is not a compilation to purchase if one is seeking innovative, contemporary dance music, but it is a solid set. It will get the party started, particularly if the party isn't so savvy about dance music (in which case it's probably best to get the latest Global Underground, Café del Mar, Mego label, or Ministry of Sound mix). --James Conde

"This CD wasn't bad. It just wasn't especially good. I was hoping it would be more, but it's supposed to be made for the mainstream enjoying public. I bought this CD mainly for the song I'll fly with you, by Gigi D'Agostino (which was unfortunately the 3 minute version instead of the 7 minute version) and after listening to that, the whole CD went downhill. There were some highlights though, specifically Gigi D'Agostino, I'll fly with you, Moby's Bodyrock, and Sun is Shining, well maybe because both Bob Marley and ATB are amazing. BT tried very galantly to turn Sarah Mclachlan's 'I love you' into a dance song, but still the album wasn't very good. If you enjoy boring mainstream music such as bad remixes of TLC 'Unpretty' and Pink 'There you go' then this album is for you. But if you strive for something more danceable, something that has some club influence, with good beats and some trance undertones, then skip this CD and look for something better."

"The previous Ultimate Dance Parties mainly included the years best acts in euro-dance, electronica and hip-hop such as Amber, Quad City DJs and Gina G. Now we get songs by Santana, TLC and Sarah McLachlan. The songs actually do sound good in remix form, but I feel this is the weakest Ultimate Dance Party as it does not have a lot of true dance music. If you like more mainstream radio and you want to have a party, you'll LOVE this CD. If you wanted something like Ultimate Dance Party 97 or 98 don't buy this. You'll be very dissapointed."

Sounds like a better UDP than ever before!

"A lot of the previous Ultimate Dance Party CDs have been more Party than Dance, with a lot of rap and alterna-pop tracks. This time around it appears that the folks at Arista realized that they have a slew of FABULOUS remixes on their hands, and it's about time that they release them! The most notable absence on this collection is one of the biggest crossover dance hits in history--Thunderpuss 2000's remix of Whitney Houston's "It's Not Right, But It's OK". However, as you can see, the Club 69 version is here. The collection starts out with my favorite song of the past 2 years, "Sexual (LI DA DI)" by Amber. The beat goes down for La Rissa's bisexual-tinged hit "I Do Both Jay and Jane," then picks back up for the unreleased Hani mix of Pink's "There You Go." These club-ready tracks are perfect for the average listener because they already know most of these songs, just not in these forms. (112's "Anywhere," TLC's "Unpretty," Santana "Maria Maria," etc.) The UDP series, however, is not "mixed" like other DJ compilations are. That's OK, because the beat never stops. The most exciting thing about this collection, though, is the fact that there are a lot of new and unheard of artists on this collection. Before, the closest you would get to unheard of was one of those dance/Top 40 hits that everyone knows, but doesn't know who sings it. Anyone heard of Gigi D'agostino, Phats and Small, Catapila, Beth Orton? You will soon enough! Their inclusion on this collection proves that Arista is finally 100% committed to dance. Let's get more of these compilations out there!"

Move on, there's so much better to spend your money on...

"Let's face it, Ultimate Dance Party was never really that great... but at least before, its' content was decent. I've got to say that this CD lacks in any originality. Most of the songs on this album are remixes of random radio hits... and while some remixes are good... the ones on this CD aren't. If you're into pop and r&b hits that are cheesily remixed, then this is your CD. If you're into true club music with energy and originality, it's in your best interest to shy away from the Ultimate Dance Party series, and 2000 is no exception."

I just can't get enough, some good cuts!

"I bought this c.d. because I own the previouse three, and I must say that this is the best, it is slammin. I listen to it all the time, my favorite cut on the c.d. came to a surprise. Sarah Mclachan's "I Love You", totaly possesse me. Debrah Cox mixed is the bomb as always. PSB's "New York City Boys", is slammin. All the cuts are dope, even Tlc's and Santana's. Good c.d. to either start or end any party with a ULTIMATE BANG!"
