CD ReviewsGreat Guitar playing Grace | Paris | 03/31/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "I found this album on holiday in Tokyo, Being an EAGLES fan I thought it would be great to have all these great tracks on one album. And the fact that its all one acoustic guitar (nylon string) makes a change. BUB ROBERTS is good, really good, he has a feel that is, well honest, straight from the heart. The solos really shine. Its here that you can see he is really in control. Check out 'HOTEL CALIFORNIA' and 'PEACEFUL EASY FEELING'.Does BUB write any of his own stuff You can tell by his arrangements that he must. But I've not seen any solo albums by him." Excellent Instrumental Acoustic Covers of Eagles Songs Grace | 04/14/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "This CD features 10 songs performed on acoustic guitar by Bub Roberts, who (based on the playing on this CD) has to be one of the more talented acoustic guitarists recording today. The CD opens up with "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and closes with "Desperado." Sandwiched between those two songs are 8 other popular Eagles songs, from "One of These Nights" and "Witchy Woman" to the quintessential Eagles' country-rock classic "Lyin' Eyes" as well as their more rock-oriented classic "Hotel California." Bub delivers all of them with technical mastery and in most cases, artistic mastery to match. I don't know if this is all recorded live or if some double-tracking was involved, but either way the results are impeccable (and if they are all direct, live recording with no dubbing or other recording embellishment, then Mr. Roberts truly is nothing short of amazing in his finger picking ability). The Eagles were always well attuned to well constructed melodies with appropriately matched rhythm, and Bub keeps that harmonious relationship intact on all his arrangements of these songs. One might wonder how an artist could make a CD (of songs originally recorded by a band) interesting that features nothing but acoustic guitar and no vocals, but Bub does just that.If I have any criticism of the CD, it is slight -- namely that outside of "Hotel California" all the songs are from the Eagles country-rock era. It would have made for a more interesting CD, I think, had he thrown in a couple of Eagles songs recorded after "Hotel California" such as "The Long Run", but who knows maybe he'll record a follow-up CD to this one and feature some of those later hits. At least we can hope.If you like the Eagles, particularly their earlier material, and/or like well-played guitar, get this CD. You won't be disappointed."
