"In this day of file-sharing, it seems to me that packaging would become more important. One of the great things about finding great collections on CD has been the historical data and stories that usually accompany the collections.



This release collects 60 Northern Soul rarities, but neglects to tell us anything about any of them. Not only no historical data or stories, but no information about the label, year issued, producer....nothing. I'm listening to this on my tiny, tinny computer speakers so it's hard to tell how good the remastering is, but it actually sounds pretty good. Also, the quality of the songs themselves are excellent, considering there are NO chart hits. But without information, it seems empty somehow.



Great price, great music, but without "the rest of the story" I feel cheated, even at the very low price I paid for this collection. I would gladly have paid another $10 and received a booklet full of photographs, enlightening anecdotes and recording and original release information."

"I actually picked this up for $15 at a store, but I guess you couldn't go wrong spending a bit more for this collection. Yes, some of the history is missing about how old some songs are, a bit of history of the songs, and yadda yadda, but what did you expect for this price? If you just want to try some Northern Soul, this is a good place to start. But you won't need to pick up the cd Northern Soul Forever if you do get this set, since all the tracks on it are spread out over these 3 in the collection....A few but not most of these songs are also on Ian Lavine's "Reaching for the Best"...."
