CD ReviewsGreat vintage saxophone jazz and r&b Danno | NY, NY | 06/26/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "Don't let the title put you off. Aside from the overplayed novelty number "The Stripper" and the Barney Kessel tune, virtually everything here is prime saxophone-based instrumentals. The lion's share of tracks go to Sam 'the Man' Taylor, and when you hear him you'll understand why. There's also a fantastic version of 'Harlem Nocturne' and a killer Charlie Parker cut. This is mostly small combo jazz and jump blues. While it's true that almost every track here would have been a fine soundtrack for a vintage stripper like Blaze Starr, it's equally true that they would be the perfect backdrop for a late-period film noir flick. Honestly, put on 'Harlem Nocturne' and it's so easy to envision neon lights, rainy streets, black-and-white imagery, and private eyes in trenchcoats and fedoras rushing past the shadows. This is probably my most-played CD of the past couple weeks. I think you're going to enjoy it." Lots of Fun Jo Weldon | New York, New York | 06/07/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is an entertaining collection of tunes for beginning burlesquers to use. The absence of lyrics in most of the music will emphasize the dance aspect of your performance, and the beats will keep you on time without even trying. But even if you don't perform, this is a wonderful release of nearly lost music!"
