"Here's the Hed Kandi recipe: Full-length, unmixed 12"singles collections, two dozen tunes over two discs, in equal parts big hits, nondescript pieces and fizzled duds.Stereo Sushi 5 goes away from the series soulful house roots for a journey in warm Latin-disco. It's a welcome venture, especially for fans of their Beach House collections. A midtempo disc one highlights with the shuffling beats and piano composition of Vincent Kwok "Las Laves," and a shift from uptempo to hammock breeziness on the C&M Afterhours mix of Malena "Para Ti." Disc Two ramps up the energy with chugging Brazilla-vocal numbers and floor fillers, notably Jensen & Reynolds "Don't Cry' and Afro Medusa's "Dreams." There's occasional dalliances with a too-big or simply gibberish vocal (Ivan Iacobucci "Pria Negra") but on the whole Wasabi offers the kick to the palette you'd hope for. Here's hoping the volume 6 keeps with the trend."
