"SOUTHERN COUNTRY BLUES Vol.1 * Down In Boogie Alley consists of 48 songs on three CDs. Included with disc #1 is an informative 20 page booklet that's easy on the eyes; it features many vintage photos. The rare recordings span the years 1927 to 1940, with each disc specific to a particular southern region.
Sound quality of the original 78s is generally OK-- some tracks have surface noise or other imperfections, but there's no oppressive filtering applied. The famous are here as well as the obscure; all perform in the traditional blues style. This set belongs in every serious blues afficianado's collection.
