CD Reviews

Gentle Rain.....
D. Haw | Fountain Valley, CA United States | 03/27/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For those looking for the pure sound of rain, this is the CD. No birds chirping, No geese honking as they fly south for the winter, No cars, No buses, No voices, just the gentle, consistent, sound of rain. One of the good things about this CD is that by playing the CD softly you get a very gentle rain sound, but by increasing the volume, it makes the rain sound like its coming down harder. This is the perfect CD to fall asleep to or just relax to."
Low Frequency rumble that repeats about every 45 seconds mak

"After carefully researching as many rain recordings as possible on Amazon and reading all reviews I had hoped I had made a good choice with this CD. Unfortunately I discovered that not only is the recording looped about every 60 seconds but there is an unmistakable low frequency rumble that is very apparent listening though my 5.1 system and my Bose Tri-Port headphones. As a recording engineer I recognize this to most likely be a truck or car passing by and passing the sound up through the microphone stands that were obviously not de-coupled from the ground. The bottom line is I hear this rumble each and everytime I start to relax and it renders the CD completely useless to me. The recording is otherwise a good one and the stereo image presented seems authentic. Since nobody else has complained of this rumble, I will assume that it will only bother someone with a trained ear."
Not bad but play it in the other room to muffle the sharpnes

"I am writing this listening to the CD. I am a Washingtonian, and we know rain. You may ask yourself why would a Washingtonian buy a rain CD, well being stationed in a fairly dry place for the last 2 years, I am in need of a little bit of home for sanity's sake. The rain on the CD sounds like a fairly hard rain (about a 7), with big drops hitting, and/or run off hitting a hard surface, and standing water, in the area. The rainstorm has waves to it, so you will get harder and lighter sounds of the rain.It is in stereo, without music, voices, or those irritating birds. It reminds me of sitting on my porch at my grandfather's or at camp, during a heavy rainfall waiting to go out and play. An East Coast small town rain, it sounds hard without that soft Country sound to it.To me this is not a relaxing type of rain that makes you want to snuggle up to your wife or girl friend. After a bit you feel like looking out the window to see how hard it is raining, then to see if the water might be rising. Adjusting the sound volume does help but it just makes the rain sound quieter along with those irritating drops hitting standing water/road. The day I received the CD I played it on the boom box in the bedroom. Playing the rain fairly softly. When my wife walked in she thought we had burst a water pipe. To make it sound better I found that adjusting the volume and sitting in another room makes it more muffled and less in your face (i.e. overbearing). For a sound sample, open up your washing machine lid when it is filling up and you will get the same type of overbearing water sound but without the rain."
