Album DescriptionThis latest Trojan compilation has been pieced together by guest curator Savage Pencil (also known as Wire journalist Edwin Pouncey). The sleeve boasts a new and exclusive Savage Pencil illustration, which folds out to reveal yet more of Pouncey's comic strip-styled work. As for the compilation itself, Pouncey draws upon a healthy number of Augustus Pablo tracks, plus works from King Tubby & The Observers, Lee Perry & The Upsetters, Johnny Clarke, Bunny Lee & The Aggrovators, Keith Hudson and Rupie Edwards to name but a few. The collection gets off to a cracking start too, with the nine-minute space rock meltdown of Dadawah's 'Seventy Two Nations', which also gets a reprise at the very end of the collection. It's a track that sounds as though it has as much in common with Can as it does the other material here, setting the tone for a bold addition to Trojan's extensive catalogue of compilations.
