CD Reviews

YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OF THESE GROUPS..................

(5 out of 5 stars)

"But have you ever actually heard them????? I have been a collector for more than 35 years. While I collect a wide variety of music, one of my favorite genres is doo-wop. Several years ago, I was introduced to pre-doo-wop R&B of the late 1940's in a 2 album set called "Goodbye 1940's....Hello 1950's" on the Apollo label. I really fell in love with the music. This brand new collection, on the Indigo label is just as good. There are 50 cuts on this double CD set and I loved all but a few. I particularly enjoyed the first disc which contained the older material. For the first time in my life I heard the music of The Cats and The Fiddle, Five Red Caps, The Basin Street Boys, The Charioteers and the Delta Rhythm Boys to mention just a few. It is doubtful that you will ever find the music of so many of these legendary groups in one collection. I have read about all of these acts for many years now and I must tell you that was not disappointed!! I particularly enjoyed "Open The Door Richard" by the Charioteers, "I Sold My Heart To the Junkman" by the Basin Street Boys and "If Money Grew on Trees" by the Toppers. And while I was enjoying the music, I perused the following books which give a wealth of information on many of these artists. "American Singing Groups" by Jay Warner and "The R&B Book" by Big Al Pavlow. Both of these items are available thru amazon.com. I anxiously await future releases from Indigo Records."
