Punk Goes...nowhere

"I admit now, I have nearly every "Punk Goes..." album. For the most part I'd rate them as 3-4 star range. Honestly, if you sit down and give them a listen, some of them are really great...then there's this album.
This cd...*sigh* I can't even find words to express my displeasure right now. Really. I felt the "More Than a Feelin'" cover was decent. And then, The Almost had to go and attempt "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty. Let me say this-I am a die hard Tom Petty fan. But, I'm not so crazy that I can't appreciate a good cover when I hear it. (For example, John Mayer's cover of Free Fallin was pretty good.) But what The Almost did to that song was sad. No emotion. Stale. Boring.
Mayday Parade did an attempt at Queen...with mixed results. Honestly, it wasn't bad. But it wasn't phenomenal either.
Overall, if I could make a suggestion-I would suggest Punk Goes Pop 2. Seriously. Out of the Punk Goes... series that are cover albums, this is possibly the weakest. (The two stars are for the cover of More Than a Feelin and the bonus cd I got with this album)"
Not a 5 exactly BUT...

"For some reason people always hate on cover albums. It's sad really. How anyone can't appreciate a fresh new take on an old standard is beyond me. I'm a huge fan of covers when they're done right, and for the most part, this one is done very well. Some of my favorites are "Free Fallin" by The Almost and (most of) "Bohemian Rhapsody" by NeverShoutNever! If you're looking for some cool punkish takes on songs this country loves, then look no further. Punk Goes Classic Rock will do you good."
