"This CD highglights African Music before Westerners started getting into it and electronics / remixes started getting in the way of decent song structures. "N'Dobine" by Youssou N'Dour is a good starter track, and gives us a more Western taste of things to come; "Keya Rinia" by Ali Baba actually manages to mix harder rock melodies with Jazz and more traditional African textures; the various musics that people oe African descent have helped to influence are now being re-absorped into an African mileu. Kilemi is pure Highlife- good-time music, with an infectuous beat and sparkling horns. "Awungilobolele" is a simple track, just guitar, bass, a few percussion compliments, and vocals, all set to an even simpler story. The compilation closes with "King Sa", a decent, if not slightly meandering, piece. Overall, a good compilation, an excellent primer."
