Synopsis

Album Description
Soundtrack to the 2009 romantic comedy featuring music from Corinne Bailey Rae, R.E.M., Talking Heads, Human League, My Morning Jacket, Maroon 5 and many others. An all-star ensemble cast headlines this comedy: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johannson, Justin Long, and Drew Barrymore. The soundtrack is the sound of the watering holes, cafes, and supper clubs where people meet, flirt and mostly fool themselves. This very personal mix of tunes compels you to join these nine lives.

I've been playing this CD ever since I got it! Like any good chick flick, the soundtrack has highs and lows. Some songs are upbeat and bouncy, and make me want to dance around the living room. Others are more low key...perfect for sitting around, ruminating on what the heck is UP with that guy you're seeing. I cant wait to see how these songs are placed within the movie, because they really encompass the entire spectrum of dating and relationship emotions.

There's plenty of oldie and goody artists on the soundtrack (like R.E.M., Talking Heads, The Black Crowes, Maroon 5, and The Cure). But there's also lots of newcomers..and even a fabulous performance by Scarlett Johansson! That's one of the things I love the most about this soundtrack...one minute I'm tapping my toes to an artist I've never been introduced to. The next minute I'm dancing around in a teenage memory fog to The Cure. It's fabulous!

CD Reviews

A solid mix

"I enjoyed this soundtrack, all in all it's a solid mix and great music for bopping around the house or driving. I really enjoyed the tracks by Lily Allen, the Ting Tings, Erin McCarley and Tristan Prettyman. Classic songs by Wilco, REM, The Replacements and The Talking Heads were welcome but I could go my entire life without hearing "Friday I'm in Love" or "Don't You Want Me" again.

The rest of the songs were okay, except Scarlet Johansson's "Last Goodbye" which sounded very weak compared to the other talented female singers on this CD. Maybe it makes sense in the movie.

A great soundtrack, totally listenable

"a fine blend of old and new songs making me feel like I never left music scene at all. The ensemble of singers to the likes of Human League, R.E.M, Cure, Talking Heads etc brings a host of talent together for you to sample in one classic disc. The additional soundtrack by Scarlett Johansson (Last Goodbye) is an extra treat since it is not featured in the movie itself. My favorites were "Don't you want me" (Human League) and "I'd Like To" (Corinne Bailey Rae) but the entire soundtrack was totally listenable. Since I decided to give the music a listen in the car, it surprised me to hear my 3 year old (whose idea of music only extend to kiddie tunes) scream out "Put it louder mama". And indeed I did."
