Not Your Typical '80s Collection

"This 3-disc set contains 54 tracks, many of which are likely to be unfamiliar to American fans of '80s music. The eclectic mix features new wave, rock, and a few ballads. The standouts include "Golden Brown" by the Stranglers, Adeva's version of Aretha Franklin's classic "Respect", and the bubbly "What Do I Do" by Phil Fearon & Galaxy. I give the set only 3 stars, however, because the mastering is surprisingly inconsistent. Comparing "Forever Your Girl" with its harsh brightness and non-existent bass to "Give It Up" and its killer, room-rockin' bass line is an exercise in polar opposites.
