"This is entry in the Open All Night series to which I find myself returning most. I own all three, but the cuts on In The Shadows are the most suited to those quiet hours, long after midnight, when you are alone and just want to float with the music. Heidi Berry's "Heart Like a Wheel" and Jane Siberry's "Love is Everything" are alone worth the price of admission. What makes this series so worth investing in, if you are of an introspective bent, is that the song choices steer away from the obvious and include some very worthy music from artists whose music you will be unfamiliar with (or at least I was). These are songs which probably aren't in your collection, but deserve to be.And, if you're like me, listening to these Open All Night discs will send you diving into your own collection to add some of your own cuts to the ones here, to get a new mix which heads in a slightly different direction but covers the same dark corners.
A little Leonard Cohen, some Tangerine Dream. Perfect. The only criticism I have of the series is the lack of lyrics on the inserts. The liner notes are fine, but I believe that the actual poetry would speak most eloquently of all. That said, the music speaks for itself."
