First, before I talk about the music, I just want to say one word:
OMNI.
The name stirs up a whole...universe. If you remember the unsual and well-regarded magazine by that name, you know OMNI for more than "science fiction": OMNI offered up a offhandedly strange mixture of science AND fiction AND speculative futurism AND the paranormal AND a lot of breathtaking album-cover level art to go with it. As one reviewer describes it, OMNI offered "another world filled with strange creatures and bizarre landscapes. It had a style which was endemic of the times, combining the older new wave movement in science fiction with the developing cyber punk genre."*
So here..is OMNI's music. This CD was part of a series from OMNI that provided a kind of soundtrack for this shadowy futuristic world: electronica, with a certain cool yet energized detachment, featuring names we recognize and know well today: Tangerine Dream, Jan Hammer, John Serrie, Patrick O'Hearn.
